Tis the Season

The holiday season offers many people an opportunity to pause, reflect, and embrace seasonal traditions. I use this time to reorganize processes and explore new approaches, recognizing that "opportunities to work smarter, better and cheaper continue to emerge."

Evaluating New Technology

Drawing from Steve Jobs' philosophy, I present three critical questions for assessing new tools:

  1. Does the new tool fit cohesively into a larger vision?
  2. What incredible benefits does it provide to the customer experience?
  3. Is it better to make decisions, even imperfect ones, than to remain static?

A Jobs clip illustrates this approach well.

The Color Yellow

Yellow stands out in nature and evokes "warmth, happiness and optimism," making it psychologically significant in communication design.

Success Follows Cognitive Change

Learning occurs continuously but largely unconsciously. Information matching personal values is easily accepted, while contradictory information requires deliberate persuasion strategies.

I introduce GIST—a framework for making information stick:

  • G-Guts: Emotional resonance from credible sources in preferred channels
  • I-Interrogation: Evidence challenging existing assumptions
  • S-Story: Direct, focused narratives emphasizing what matters
  • T-Turns: Conversion into attitude, action, or behavior change

The sequence transforms awareness into lasting behavioral change through emotional triggers, credible information, clear narratives, and measurable engagement.
